is it me…
a close member of my family told me a horror story of events involving SKY and it is so incredulous I had to have a rant!
The person concerned lives in an apartment block, which Sky sent direct mail to informing them that they could have Sky+ and HD. Sky was called, payment for deposit or installation or whatever swiftly taken and direct debit set up over the phone, job done in 15 minutes max.
When the engineer called to fit Sky HD, he immediately announced that the apartments on “this floor” cannot get Sky+ due to the cabling within the building but you could still take advantage of HD. If they were not happy you had 28 days to cancel and a refund would be given.
Now after about 24 hours, the person concerned decided it was not worth all the money for just HD if no Sky+ features so rang Sky to cancel. Now to cut a very very long story short, about 8 phone calls, 2 e-mails and 1 letter later, Sky acknowledged the contract was to be terminated, but doe to their inability to act quickly, 2 direct debit payments had been taken depsite the set top box having been boxed up since the day after it was installed awaiting collection!
Now this you are not going to believe.
When Sky confirmed that the refund was due, the operator who was very pleasant does not have the authority to action the refund, only request it. Authorisation takes up to 2 days and payment by cheque only, takes a further 21 days!!
Now as we speak, the cheque for the refund has still to be received and when it is, it needs to be taken to the bank and await clear funds, thus at its best it is maybe 8 to 12 weeks from cancellation to receiving a refund.
How can it be that Sky can take money off you by phone within 15 minutes, or in my case I order a Film within seconds, yet they are unable or is it unwilling to act responsibly in refunding monies? Do I detect a specific desire to withhold payments to customers who are entitled?
What would Sky think if all its millions of customers acted this way towards them and saidm “you know what, you can wait a further 21 days before I will pay you and you can have it by cheque!”
Or is ti just me?

or are we about to hear all the old rubbish spurted out by the 3 major political parties on the run to the general election?
Now I know I am on my favourite subject, well at least one of them, but the fact is this…we only have 1 true day of democracy every 5 years when it is General Election time. Why do I say this, well, history will show that despite all the promises made at the time of running for Election, the successful party will do whatever they decide once in power.
There are countless examples of no action and is it any wonder that the UK has a turnout of less than 40%, its a bloody disgrace and the leaders of the 3 parties should hang their heads in shame if that is the best they can do.
Now, this is what I would offer and deliver if I had the financial backing to run for Government.
- Promise the voters that they would have a say on major topics on an on-going basis by the use of national referendum.
- Topics to be decided by this method would be:
- Capital Punishment
- Euro or not
- increased investment in Pensions, National Health and Education
- Involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq
What I hear you say, a Political Party is going to ask “us” what we would like to be the direction of the Government, and act on the findings of the majority? Yeah, I know it’s my dream, but that is how it should be, not what we currently have, 3 sets of complete Muppet’s.
The expenses scandal showed exactly what they are in politics for THEMSELVES and nobody else.
Or is it just me?
Is it just me…
or have the politician’s yet again show us their true colours? When the whole of the public see them as greedy scounderels who are looking to maximise “their” own financial position, all they can say is “we are working within the rules”!
Sorry, but the vast majority have shown one too many times that they are in the “politics game” for what they can get out of it. Greedy buggers looking to bleed the hard working general public dry. Is there a politican who we feel is fit to hold the honour of representing the people?
Or is it just me?
is it just me…
or is the Labour Government completely and uttelry inept! I mean look at the latest budget announcement and while most high earners will receive no sympathy over the new to be introduced 50% tax on earnings over £150,000, I do not understand the logic behind the proposed Benefit in Kind classification on final salary pension contributions.
If as part of the employment package one recieves a final salary pension, better they are suitable financed for retirement than having to join the long queue for those complaining about the State pension.
In fact, as usual, I believe this is a reaction to the public complaints with regards to the Pension fiasco surrounding the Banking Big Cats and how they messed up on those specific few individuals. How does the Labour Government react, too late and by penalising the vast majority of good senior managers who did not get this Country in the pickle it now finds itself, and who we will rely on to get us out, because let us be honest, we cannot rely on Politicians to rise to the challenge can we. No, they are too busy bickering over how they can screw as much personal expenses out of the system for themselves.
